    Aftermarket fuel injection?

Happy New Year All! I have 96 pre2100wt with a carburated SBC Merc.
Has anyone tried to pull more horses out of their motors, by different intake,
carb, on perhaps even switching to fuel injection? I bought it with 66hrs on the new motor and it has about 85 hrs on it now, If I had had it built myself I would have found horsepower through the build up. but that was the way it came,so I am pretty much looking for bolt ons. Thanks.

Congrats and welcome to the Tige family

F/I alone is really not going to give you any "seat of the pants" horsepower, but Would be well worth the investment. F/I offers fuel efficiency, easier starting, less maintenance and repair, smother engine performance.

Horsepower is a result of increased compression from shaved heads, domed pistons, smaller combustion chamber. Increased fuel and air intake from higher cam lobe and longer duration (valve open time) and forced induction (turbo/super charger). And from increased cylinder volume (bigger engine)

If the system allows you to "tune" the fuel injection, you can get a little increase (12-15 hp) by lowering the air/fuel ratio while at your normal cruising speed (I'd say between 1800 -3500rpm range) and under acceleration.

Good luck and post some pics of her

You have better results by repropping. You will save some cash too. Also the SBC on the older boats have been squeezed pretty good. Eldelbrock Performer RPM intakes, high cfm carbs, etc.

The biggest problem I have found when installing aftermarket injection , is if you ever have to get a part such as a sensor , you normally cant pick it up at a local parts store. We normally install factory systems for that reason.

Thanks guys, it's good to hear it all, I re-propped with an Acme 3 blade for out o' da hole..... Beautiful prop! Spharis ,as you mention, they used high cfm carbs, and intakes (performer rpm)"back in the day" I just keep looking at that tiny 2 barrell and think that I could at least put on a 4 barrel carb.( But perhaps because the carb is tuned for the space and volume of air that the doghouse allows in through the snorkels ,that that is the most cfm it can handle without cutting supply holes in it ? ) The motor is new, block and all, as the previous owner didn't winterize it in time a couple of years ago . I wonder whether the performer intake made it back on the rebuilt motor as it was from a rebuilt engine shop! I will be checking that asap! Thanks again !

You'll be surprised how much of a holeshot you'll get from repropping. You have a pretty big motor in there.

Absolutely! I changed to an acme with ,well , I always mix up the pitch numbers , either went to /from 13x13, 13x11.5. at the beginning of last season. The difference was noticeable and I too ,recommend it! It now accelerates the way I would expect it to. Now I'm just trying to take another performance step!

What model is the carb that is on there? Do you know the jetting?

I have a 600cfm and moved up two steps on my jets and think I have about the top of what I can get. I wouldn't worry about not getting enough air in there. It isn't starving in the compartment.

Sounds like he's got the Merc 260 Ski engine or something simular to mine that has a 2 barrel (carter??) that looks like it would flow less than a McDonalds drinking straw. I would be supprised if it flows 600cfm as I have a 4 barrel holly on my SBC powered Nissan Patrol and the throats on that look huge compared to the little ole 2 barrel on the boat.
