I just bought a new 2007 21i with the 340 hp vortec engine. I took it out for the first time last weekend and loved it, but had 1 problem. About 5 or 6 times that day the engine would start cutting out when accelerating. It could best be described as sputtering and popping (like backfiring) and had no power. I tried giving more throttle and I tried giving less throttle and neither worked. I would have to put it in neutral and start over. It had about 3/4 of a tank of fresh fuel. Anyone have this happen to them? I'm hoping its an easy fix because the dealership I bought it from is nowhere close and they don't really know what is going on. Any help would be much appreciated!

It had sat for almost a year, but I'm not sure how old the gas was in it. I know that there was maybe 1/8 tank and I put in 30 gallons of fresh gas. I didn't know if that could still be a problem or not.Comment

It might be you fuel pump. I had/have a very similar problem on my RZ 4 and the fuel pump was defective to the point of pumping fuel out into the bilge.Work because I have to eat, ski because I have to live!Comment

Remove the fuel/water seperator and see if there's any water in it from condensation in the fuel tank.
Buy/borrow a fuel pressure gauge and see if the pressure is holding while running (approx. 28-30 psi).Comment

make sure you dont have a loose plug wire ... thats what was wrong with mine.. the reason it only did is sometimes was that it would normally be making contact and then if i hit soem rollers it would not.. just a guess...Comment
