    steering wheel not staight

I just got my steering cable replaced the the dealership that sold me a used 24V. It is now very easy to turn, but I noticed that my steering wheel is now about 90 degrees off from being straight when I am going straight. Is there a way to striaghten it up without pulling all the floor and seats up again?

Yep. Should have series of machine screws or allen heads around the center permieter. Just undo those and the wheel and cover comes off. You reattach it where you want it with the rudder straight. If it isn't this style, let me know and I can walk you through the a different type.

Also is it a rack or rotary style???
I have the rack style and when I first changed my cable the steering wheel was off. I just loosened the four bolts that hold the rack to the bottom of the steering wheel. After it was loose I was able to move the steering with out moving the rack. Then I just tightened the four bolts rechecked the rudder vs. the steering wheel. All is good.

Yeah just center the rudder, then pull the rack off at the helm, adjust the wheel accordingly and re-attach the rack.

drop the rack black sqaure thing on the end of the cable itself 4 -7/16 bolts hold it up losen those bolts so rack does not contact sterering helm teeth move steering wheel do desired postion retighten.

I have the same thing...only when I'm outside the boat looking at the rudder it's straight and the wheel is perfect. When I drive I am 90 degrees to the left. Weird. I have to assume it's some kinda physics thing with the prop wash or something????? I'm just going to adjust the wheel 90 degrees to the right when I get a chance. Seems like an easy fix. We'll see, everything seems like an "easy fix" until you do it right!?
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Could be an alignment issue. I'd have it checked.

If your steering wheel has the circle of screws around the center, there is no need to touch the rack. Just center the rudder, undo the screws, straighten the wheel and reattach. ALL steering wheels have some form of removing the cover. They have to to allow access to the rotary shaft so the wheel collar can be attached. You are very unlucky if you have a one piece wheel.

Also Jason, I think you would be very suprised at the minimal amound of movement the rudder actually has. You can turn the wheel 90 degrees and the rudder will look like it hasn't moved but a tiny bit.

Normally if you move just the steering wheel instead of the rack it means there will be more teeth for one direction then the other, which inturn wont give you full travel . When everything is right the rudder from one side to the other will normally be over the rudder port screws at each cornner.

Means if the rack is actually installed incorrectly....in this case you wouldn't have the proper turning arm left to right. I doubt this is what is going on though. Whoever reinstalled the wheel probably buttoned it down off by a screwhole.

But you dont need to take the wheel off to replace the cable...
