    Oil filter?

I just changed out my oil and filter the other day. I had two filters..one longer one and one short one. Both being the correct one for my engine.

I opted for the shorter one and now the Oil psi approaches 80 on the guage at throttle. Prior, it would stay around 60 at full throttle.

Should I be concerned? Could too much oil in the system cause this as well? I'm asking this cuz its hard to get en accurate reading on my Hewitt boat lift.

    TIA, Paul

A little over full or under full will not cause a change in oil pressure. I would say a "little" being around a quart. What does the pressure read @ idle? and how does that compare to what you remember from last season?

What engine do you have? How much did you put back in? How much used oil do you thing you got out? Can you lower the boat into the water and check the level. In the water is the best reading.

Just a friendly suggestion, change the oil in the fall before storing for winter as used oil is corrosive.

The psi at idle is still at 40psi like before. I have the 5.7 350 CID engine installed. I did not measure the quantity removed, but I slowly added the freash oil to get the reading where it should be. It's hard to see fresh oil on those dipsticks anyway

I can lower the boat on the lift easy enough to get a reading and it's right on.

      Thanks.

          Flyboy,
Just changed my oil for the first time on my new engine and have encountered the exact same issue as you. At idle the oil pressure runs around 40 psi or so. When throttled, anything over about 3000rpm, the gauge raps to 80. I was concerned about this also, and checked the oil level repeatedly and it was within the acceptable range. I also pulled off a filter that was much longer than the new one I put on. Hopefully it's not a big problem to run this pressure this high. The 25-40 oil is pretty thick which probably doesn't help the situation. Let me know if you have figured anyhting else out about the situation.

Mine does the exact same thing and has done so since day 1. 560 hrs later it's still running like a champ! I wouldn't sweat it.
