Belt wont turn. Pulley locked up?

    Hello,

I was out on the lake today and we were just setting around floating with the boat turned off. When everyone got back in the boat the belt got really wet. When I cranked the boat I noticed it was sqeaking bad. I opened the motor cover and the belt was not turning. I can not tell if there is a pully that is locked up or not. Has anyone ever had this problem? I think it may be the water pump pulley that is not turning but I am not sure. What is the best way to test this? My boat is 2002 20v Riders Edition with the Black Scorpion Engine 350. Thanks for any help.

We had this problem a couple of years ago, and had to replace the idler pulley. When we were on the water, and the belt was not turning, a push with a ski rope handle got it turning enough to get us back to the marina, but be careful!! Check your belt tightness as well.

Impeller became flipped and the belt could not turn it back over so the belt would squeal and slip.

So what should I do to repair this? Any information would be great. Going to try to start working on it tomorrow afternoon and would love to have it going by the weekend.

        Thanks again

Also where is a good place to purchase parts? Any online places or do you just go to the dealership?

I would replace your impeller and belt.

              Thanks for the help

Ok. I am going to order a new impeller today. One question though would the impeller actually stop the water pump pulley from turing?

                  Thanks

Ok. Thanks for the help Lee. I got a new impeller and housing today. Going tonight to get a new belt. Figured I would go ahead and change it while I had it off. How can I back flush the system to get the junk from the old impeller out? Well I figure this will be a fun evening. The last time I changed the belt I left with bloody knuckles.

Back flush the hard hose going into your impeller housing, this will push the water out of your scoop. Find the 4 hoses at the top of your engine and find the one that goes back to the transmission cooler and back flush there with your impeller housing off.

                      replaced impeller and housing

Well I finished replacing the impeller and housing tonight, but I am not sure if there was anything wrong with the old parts. They looked pretty good to me. This may not be my problem. I have to say that working on this boat is a royal pain. I ended up taking the wall out where the battery is mounted and that was a task of its own. I am going to hook it up to a proflush kit tomorrow and see if it will work or not. One thing that worried me was that the center pulley (biggest one) would not move at all. Not sure if it is suppose to as I am not a mechanic type of person. All the other pulleys moved fine. Since the impeller was still intact I did not flush the hoses. I hope that wasn't a mistake but it is too late now.

Hopefully the one pulley that you referred to that won't move is the crankshaft pulley. If so, and all the others spin freely, you should be good to go.

Suck it out with a shop vac. If small parts were left in the intake side before the impeller, they could get in the housing and shred the new impeller.

Ok. Thanks to everyone for all your help. As far as the pulley that wont move it is the biggest pully and is located in the center. I think that it is the crankshaft pulley. Still bothers me though that the old impeller and housing really did not look that bad. I have a problem with belt wear. I usually break a belt once a year. The dealership I got the boat from said that one of the pulleys was out of line and they have tried to fix it multiple times, but it still does it. Just wondering if anyone else had a problem with that. Have any of you tried a proflushional to crank the boat with a water hose? Just wondering if it is safe or not.
