Keeping stuff out of my impeller is what I love about having a sea strainer. I posted some pics of my set-up a little bit ago in the below thread. If getting debris in your pick-up and trashing your impeller is a serious or ligitimate concern, I would install one.

I need to put a sea strainer in on mine, just haven't gotten around to it. So much to do, so little time to do it. Oh well, with this being my last taken weekend, stuff will be getting done a lot more!! At least I got the car cover over the boat today, so now it's got a boat cover and carport Stay a lot dryer now!

Just got our new 05 24V back from getting the annual service. Even though it only has 32 hours, the impeller was about to go. The dealer said that low hour boats may need an impeller sooner do to lack of use. The impeller can dry out from little or no water circulation. Glad he suggested it. The dealer (Tige Proformance Boats of AZ) also did a kick *** job installing our new sound system. Will post pictures tomorrow. Those guys are great.

i agree the impeller is a before the season fix every year. my '01 22iR has eaten two since i've owned it. finally got smart this year and bought the little end cap that fits in where it always scorches the housing. its supposed to prevent that. guess i'll see how it works when i replace it again next year. i'm also looking to upgrade to a blue aftermarket run dry impeller rather than the mercruiser next year as well.

Hay Typerider, do you have a pic and/or link about that end cap? Sounds interesting.

Gunnell's Marine replaced the raw water pump asm. On the first trip out yesterday, all seem well. No water in the bilge and the eng temp is steady.

hey guys sorry i didn't see this sooner. just did the swap a couple days ago and took out the boat 1st time this season yesterday. so no pics of the install... my bad. basically its a little thin flat round (apx. 1" dia.) piece that fits in on the end of the impeller the shaft doesn't go into. just fills in the small hole on the side that touches the plastic housing. i guess i'll find out if it worked next season. i'll have to dig around to find the bag it came in might still have it with the part# on it. i couldn't find it on the mercruiser site sorry.
