Raw water pump

My bilge kicked on twice yesterday, I found water pissing from the driveshaft seal on the raw water pump. Anyone seen this on this new of a boat? Would the seals and impeller have been burned up from being dry, the engine was drained for winter but was run on the fake-a-lake before heading out.
I'm 95% sure this was not there during the summer. Even with all the water being brought in by swimmers, the only time my bilge ran was when I launch w/out the plug

Had boat in for winterize November. Dealer found (by inspection apparently) my waterpump shaft broken?? - and two others on the lot. 2006 22Ves. All I know is it was 100% definitely working the last time I was at the lake. Beats me - covered by warranty. I'm guessing - there was a freeze. One bad water pump may have been found, and he went to the rest in his lot to inspect - according to dealer, he could tell if bad water pump without removing by wiggling something, not sure. Asked why bad water pump now if ok when brought in - "just one of those things".

Both mine and MRMoffat1's are 06's, should not see this kind of issue in first season I would think

i had the problem with my 03 after one year. If you think about it, the impeller may have sat on a shelf, then installed, and then sat in your boat. The impeller cracks when it just sits in the housing. I mean you know that. This is part of the reason I either take mine out every off season and let it sit on my workshop table with some lub on it, or just replace it every year. Each to his own you know?

I agree 100% that the impeller is a Maintenance Item and should be replaced every year, as I have done on all my other boats. I doo this in the spring for the verey reason you stated "then installed, and then sat in your boat" this way, I start the season w/ a fresh impeller.

Did your pump drive shaft break like MRMoffat1 or did the driveshaft seals fail and fill the bilge like mine. Marine Power has a 3yr warrenty for this reason. These 2 failers are not a " wear item" type failer. That is why mine is at the dealer being repaired under warrenty

oh, guess I miss understood you. my shaft has never broke, but the o ring has leaked, and the impeller blew up.

Anyone have a link to get a new paddlewheel for the pump? I want to go ahead and buy one and get this changed

I'm not sure what powerplant you have, but I would go with a globe if you could, they are supposed to be awesome impellers. If you have a Mercruiser, then it should be the Globe 2000. If you search for Globe Impellers there are a couple strings that will come up that the product manager for Globe actually posted on. Good luck with the install, it is not tough.

Well, that's a mercruiser so that still might be the right impeller.

Remember, the impeller is made of a rubbery material. After two years, it becomes more brittle and will start disintegrating.

If you accidentally ingest something into the impeller it will damage the impeller and shorten its life. I've had that happen a couple of times...picked up some submerged debris...just one of those things.

Otherwise, you need to change it every 2 years whether it needs it or not.
