    PSS Shaft Leaking

This weekend I discovered my bilge pump was running excessively and traced it back to the PSS Shaft. It seems there is a good leak right behind the silver coupler on the shaft.

Is this something that would need adjustment or is it possible that it is somehow damaged? Anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey Matt, it could just need adjusting. If you can push the carbon/rubber boot back away from the s/s collar more than 3/4" then it needs to be adjusted. There are 4 allen set screws threaded into to 2 holes. Loosen and adjust. When you push the boot away from the s/s collar look/feel around the carbon seal (black surface clamped in boot) for any cracks or chips. If it is damaged in ANY way it's trashed.
Congrats on the new boat, site looks good too, later

      Whoa...a rare Greg sighting!

Thanks for the reply, now I know what to look for hopefully it just needs to be adjusted. I wonder if the standing water in my bilge from draining my block, which may have froze, caused the carbon/rubber boot to chip?

Anyway, thanks and hope life is treating you good!

Freezing won"t crack it Matt, The carbon is brittle like glass, it would have to take some sort of impact. I saw one chip from being stepped on while the bilge was being cleaned.
