Current setup should be an electric pump. Not sure its a factor unless you got a complete new engine from merc.
Roger! Thanks for the quick response!

Or you could replace it with this Indmar predator engine complete. I doubt skiing legend Marcus Brown would steer you wrong.

"I believe it has under 1000 hrs on it"

        Biggest issue I see.
        Oh Yeah!

True, however that could be confirmed. I guess it really boils down to how the engine was used; also if the cost vs hours are appropriate. If for a ski school, then it would have crazy high idle hours with another another portion in the 3-4k range as it traveled down the slalom course.

Just need a battery, diacom, and some jumpers so "wake up" ECM...ive never messed with the couplers on the trans side of that engine. Does it have a splined output shaft or keyed shaft for the DD coupler. If its not splined hes going to have a lot of work on his hands to stack his Vdrive onto that configuration.
If its splined and the right size/#of splines it would be a good candidate for a swap. The #1 bank roser gasket appears to have been leaking a bit.

Im hoping to have the rusted motor out in the next few days, Thanks for al the help everyone!
would there be an issue/advantage going to a top mounted starter with the new motor?
And if the new motor has an electric fuel pump will it be an issue wiring it?

If you go top mounted starter you MUST replace the flywheel ring gear and have it set aft. The block mounted starters utilize a forward mounted ring gear. The engine won't start with a top mounted starter and forward ring gear.

Your motor has an electric fuel pump.

Theres another thread recently about replacing, rebuilding etc...the EFI system on your engine needs that specific camshaft profile. If you want it to run correctly you have to use the same roller camshaft and its profile. Your camshaft Mercruiser part number is #431-811658 $411, lifters are standard GM roller lifter.

Thanks for all the help y’all!
The motor is coming out tomorrow and I’ll post photos. Just wait to see how rusted this sucker is!!
Definitely going with a base engine or a used complete engine, leaning towards buying new and having a warranty but the idea of buying used and saving money is always nice!

I feel your pain. My engine replacement is temporarily on hold so I look forward to watching your progress. Good luck!

I’ve been following your thread, why are things on hold?

Time and money. Other things in life have taken priority and my money. My kids are grown and gone and the grandkids are not quite old enough. Still hoping to have it completed for the summer.

With the help of a mini excavator and a pry bar the rusted old engine came right out. Now time to clean up the engine compartment and order a new engine. The projects going to be on hold for a bit as I’m headed to the Florida Keys for a few weeks for work. Hopefully when I get back I’ll have the new engine ready to drop in!
                        Thanks for everyone’s help![ATTACH]50519[/ATTACH

So I had a chance to look at what can be reused from the rusty old motor, it looks like I can reuse the intake manifold along with the distributor, throttle body and some other stuff. The exhaust manifolds will be replaced, the recirculating pump, idler pulley and tensioner pulley as well. So I’m looking to drop in a long block not a base engine. I read a post in laser fish’s thread talking about reusing the old camshaft. If I replace with a long block with a roller cam will I need to reuse my old cam? And just to confirm it’s a standard rotating engine correct?

If you call Jasper with your engines serial number they can send you the correct engine for your application.

Standard rotation yes. DO NOT TRUST JASPER TO SEND YOU THE CORRECT CAMSHAFT IN YOUR NEW ENGINE. The last motors we got from them 4 years ago had nothing torqued, wrong camshafts and hypereutectic pistons and a tag reading “prelube engine and check all fasteners for correct torque. Jasper is not liable for incorrect torque values”. Might as well built it yourself.

Pull the cam from your old engine, have a trusted machine shop send it out for a regrind (or send it to me and I’ll have it done for you at our cost), replace the roller lifters with new ones (they’re gm so find the lowest price GENUINE GM PART, nothing aftermarket or you’ll hate yourself real quick).

So quick update, I’m about to purchase an engine from TCM as they have the best warranty and the price is pretty competitive. What I still don’t understand is if I need to reuse my old camshaft or if I can use the camshaft that comes in the new motor from TCM?
