How do I detect source of gasoline fumes in 2004 21i inboard?

Was out wakeboarding yesterday, stopped for lunch and when we went back out, got strong smell of gasoline. Opened engine cover to vent, but could not locate source. Engine was harder to start than usual and did not run smooth at low speed. Was OK at higher speed. Returned to dock and pulled boat. What is best way to locate source of fumes?

Be careful. Look close at everything to see if there is any wetness around fittings and hoses. Smell different areas to see if it is stronger in a particular area. If it is a leak there may be some discoloration in that area. Oh, and no smoking while you are looking...
