20V Water in the engine compartment

    Hey Guys,

I just changed my water pump and I have 2 questions.

    1. How much tension needs to be on the belt? I have read a 1/4" give on the longest point of the belt
    2. I have water coming in the engine compartment when I ran it. I only ran it for 10 minutes on the trailer backed down the ramp at a nearby launch point. The water pump I just changed, does not appear to be leaking.

This boat is new to me and ski boats in general, not sure what is acceptable amount of water, if any.
It did not go all the way up to the back of the engine, and it appeared to come in, and not fill any more after it came in.

    Thanks!

That sounds about right on the belt tension. You definitely don't want it super tight and vice versa loose either.
Re: leak-My guess would be your shaft seal is leaking. Newer boats have a dripless seal that is different from the older boats. The old ones utilize packing that deteriorates after three or four years. It is supposed to drip but very slowly. If you take your center bench out and stick your head into the bilge you'll see the prop shaft coming out of the drive. The seal is just forward of where the shaft goes through the hull. Put it in the water and run it around a bit I'm betting you'll see it coming from the shaft seal. Also check all your hoses for leaks at attachment points and splits in the hose along the length of them. There are a bunch of write ups on replacing the packing if you use the search function.

You said that your new to ski boats

      CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION

DO NOT PUT YOUR BOAT IN GEAR WHILE OUT OF THE WATER AND ON THE TRAILER.

some will say your can spray everything with water or WD40 but ill just say that's not bright idea.

Yes the shaft seal is the most likely culprit here. My advice or 2 cents since that's all its really worth.

Go to PSS Shaft Seals order your new dripless shaft seal (note. ensure you get the water injected one)

Take that boat and your seal to the dealer have them do the install, and a prop shaft alignment. This will knock out 2 of your big 5 year jobs.
