22Ve Throttle Handle Fix

Last summer I used the wrong loc-tite on the set screw in the throttle handle of my 22Ve and it apparently ate the threads on the plastic. The set screw won't hold at all now and my handle is loose.

I assume my best bet is to drill and tap a bigger hole with a bigger set screw? Anybody else done this successfully and if so do you have the details?

Dan - I may actually have a spare throttle assembly in my garage, that you are welcome to if you pay shipping. Let me check today when I get home from work and will let you know.

Early ones were a bakelite type material and can shatter very easy. The later ones were a two piece assembly out of aluminum. Makes me wonder if the threads pulled/ground off when putting in the set screw. I would go with Jason's replacement part first. If for some reason it doesn't work, you will need to drill slowly and with very little pressure. Then tap out to a metric or any other size that is slightly larger. You will have to constantly run the tap back and forth to not take too much of a cut. Otherwise it will bind up and shatter the knob.

Jason AZ's throttle handle continues to elude him. Anyone else with a spare knob lying around?

Well, I went to take the knob off and it was more complicated than I hoped - the electrical connections are epoxied into the TAPS switch which prevents knob removal. There is some shrink-tubing in the wires further down, but I don't know what kind of connections are under that shrink tubing. Do I just need to cut off the shrink tubing and disconnect the switch that way? Then put new shrink tubing on once I drill and tap the new hole in the knob?

Or should I just use marine grade epoxy and glue the set screw back in place???
