In order to hopefully prevent anyone else making the same mistakes...
if your taps gauge isn't working and the resistance across the wires isn't in the range 220-260 ohms, you need a new hinge\sensor.
a quick search will uncover this part number CC3003S THIS IS INCORRECT (at least for a 06 20i)
the correct part number is CC3003SASS, and here is why.
I hope that helps someone in future :-)

That is a special configuration Upper Hinge Sensor, which the correct part number for a replacement would be CC3003SASS; not CC3003S. CC3003SASS has a 1.225” long Spacer (small back collar around the sensor coil) that allows the Piston to retract one (1) more inch further inside of the 2” Cylinder Body of your actuator. CC3003S has a standard 2” Spacer that keeps the Piston deployed about 1” out of the 2” Cylinder Body. You can order the CC3003SASS from any of your local marine dealers, catalog &/or Internet retailers using the part number provide, which retails for $36.75 USD.
