Last time I had the boat out, I noticed that coming back out of reverse was extremely stiff. After much troubleshooting, I found that the shift cable on the transmission side was bent and was having a hard time coming back out of the sleeve. I was able to unbend it a bit and gave it a little lube, and is now a smooth transition. I was curious as to why it was bent in the first place and from what I gather, the placement of the bracket that holds the cable in place, and moved, therefore causing the cable to want to extend further than what was possible when putting the transmission into forward.
So here is my question. The bolt that the cable mounting bracket is on was/is loose (not hand loose, but wrench loose, if that makes sense) as are the other 3 (2 on each side). Should these be this way, and can this bolt holding this bracket be tightened to avoid this issue again?
