    leaking shaft seal

I have 1998 Pre 2200iWT with a 350 Mag. I noticed that what appears to be that plastic coulper on the shaft is dripping water into the billage area. Has anyone else come across this problem before?

It should leak a few drops every minute because the packing seal material requires this for lubrication. If it's really leaking, it's time to tighten the packing nut.

Check this thread for instructions on what to do.

Yes, there is supposed to be packing rope in there (2 strands to be exact). You can tighten it if there's still some left. Tighten it until it drips only a little bit (a few drops every few seconds or so). The water lubricates the packing material.
