Having problem keeping my 1998 tige direct drive running

I am looking for some advice or even help. I have been stranded twice now on the lake. My boat well idle fine when you first get to lake. Then when you get out on the lake is doesn't run smooth it's hard to explain but it has a little hesitant to it when your or idling through no wake zone and when you take off and when pulling my son waking board. It has gotten to the point that once we stop for a break it won't idle worth a crap and you can't get it to go even when u give it gas it falls on its face and dies. I just replace the fuel filter and its pumping gas when you turn the key and hear the fuel pump run. This might not make sense but it sounds like flooded or there's water in the gas. I had a friend tell me to start with changing out the disturber cap or have new injectors put in carb. Really looking for some help don't wanna have to take it to are local boat mech and pay arm and leg to get fixed.

Mr shinkle, we will need an engine serial number please and when it craps out, have you tried to start it with the throttle open slightly?

Swap the distributer cap. Fixed my similar issues.

Check engine temps too.

Hang in there. This group will get you fixed up. We need more engine info like boat wakes requested.
