Engine Dies

I have a 1998 Tige 2050. The issue I am having is the boat will stall after you power it up and will sometimes start back up and sometimes it will not. I have replaced my water fuel separator and that seemed to help but it is still doing it. Could it be the fuel pump? or has anyone else had or heard of this problem?

Example: If you are coming out of a no wake zone and start throttle up, you will start to take off then it dies. You are sometimes able to it started and sometimes you have to back fill fuel line hose from the carb.

You might have sediment in your gas tank that is moving around when you take off.

If it is gas related, I would guess the accelerator pump on the carb. If you power up slow it wouldn't be a problem. If you accelerate fast like you were to pull up a skier it would die. It needs two good squirts of gas from accelerator pump to achieve this. You might be able to just get the diaghram without getting the whole carb kit. Very easy to install. I think you can do it without carb removal.

Engine Dies

I've been having this problem on my 2002 22I (350 MAG MPI) for several weeks. Before you go swapping out any parts, you should check with your dealer about recent issues with gas....or more specifically , the 10% ethanol in the gas. Evidentally it acts as a 'detergent' in your tank and will loosen any debris that has built up, which can end up in your fuel lines, screens and filters, causing flow problems. There have also been issues with the octane level of the gas dropping as it sits in the tank (as the ethanol will absorb any condensation. )

He told me NOT to add anymore 'dry gas' as this contains alcohol as well, and can worsen the problem.

My dealer told me to do two things:
Buy 93 octane, as the octane level will then be preserved.
With each tank full, add an appropriate amount of stabilizer (check the can for ratio.)
