    Prop Puller

I just purchased an Acme prop and understand that I need a prop puller to remove the old prop (I assume this is correct). Can anyone recommend a good prop puller? Are there any alternatives to a prop puller (like something I may already have in the garage)?

I have read where some people are using a lot of heat from a torch to get the prop off (not sure I like this as it may warp the prop shaft). I have also read where people have used "bearing pullers" (I am assuming like a wheel bearing puller). Has anyone had any experience with this?

If I take it to a boat shop how much should it cost to get the prop swaped?

    Thanks!

You really want a prop puller and not use heat, banging, or a bearing puller not designed for propellers.

Here is one from from Overtons that should do the job quite well.

Oh, and a shop will cost you probably as much as the prop puller.

I just ordered an Acme 537 and the Acme prop puller kit 4999 from here:

Haven't used it yet but it seems very nice.

Go to Elberts.com and look at the Ironman Prop Puller and Prop wrench I just received them and are really happy with them. A buddy at work turned me on the the Ironman, he is a ski jumper and slalom dude.

It all happens for a reason

I want to thank everyone for all the input on needing a prop puller. I ordered one Saturday evening, and put the new prop up on the shelf for a week. Good thing I did. This afternoon we seriously ran aground. The lake is SO very low. I was pulling a wakeboarder and was a good 40 to 50 feet outside of the danger area when I heard that sound no one likes to hear, the prop churning mud, gravel, and large rocks. I cut the power immediately, which may have been the wrong thing to do, and the wakeboarder literaly stopped in knee deep water. I think that when I cut the power is when the main damage was done as just one of the blades was pulled back from dragging accross the submerged island. Oh well! Now I really need to put that new prop on! And I also learned that the shallow water depth alarm was not set deep enough (6 feet). I increased it to 12 so hopefully the new prop will make it longer.

Sorry to see that Paxton, it hurts to even look at. So what prop puller did you order?

I went ahead and got the acme C-clamp version. I got it from propellersonline.com I purchased the 101 kit which included a plastic case, new prop nut, pin, wrench, C-clamp, key, and grease for $110.25

They shipped it out immediately, no charge for shipping, and it arrived a day EARLIER than expected!
