Unfortunately, it appears that we have a clutch plate slippage problem.
Late last year we noticed a shudder under heavy load, much more so when surfing and weighting the port side.
As it was the end of the year, I decided to do the fluid changes in the V-drive and transmission.
Neither oil looked all that bad, but fluid is pretty cheap and felt better that it was done.
We had a few other 'issues' regarding engine temperature and thermostat stuff recently.
The distributor cap and rotor had gotten kind of fuzzy also and the engine was stumbling.
I confused the engine stumble with the shutter.
All seems really solid when the boat is in reverse, but can feel a difference when going in forward.
The RPM's seem to stay pretty solid as it's hard to determine if there is less than a 100 RPM change for such a short burst.
The shutter feels similar to when we have picked up a bunch of weeds in the prop.
The technical info for the V-drive and transmission is:
Walter 1.46-1 ratio
Velvet Drive:
ratio 1:1
model 10-17-004
I have ordered the rebuild kit for the transmission and have the service manual also.
I'm not sure where to find the drive plate part number and who the manufacturer is.
The couple of questions I have are:
Are there any tricks to supporting the engine to unbolt the prop shaft and transmission mounts?
Does the V-drive and transmission need to be removed together?
If they are taken out as one unit, do you need a lift to get the pair out?
What part number and manufacturer makes the drive plate?
Are there any tricks to getting the V-drive & transmission back in?
Does the motor/prop need to be re-aligned once the work is done?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as the project is in motion.
I did review the directions at http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...v-drive-tranny
Though the directions seemed pretty complete, there weren't any photos... and I'm a very visual guy.
As always... any thoughts, suggestions or tricks are greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks all
