intermitent beep

We have a 2002 22i 315hp mercruiser. At any rpm we have a double beep every 60 seconds. All the gauges are normal. All the levels are normal. The owners manual says its the transmission temp but it starts to beep the instant you start the motor even when its cold. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this problem.

I think it is a fault code stored in your ECM.

Depends on the ECM that is being used. Have a dealer scan it for codes like Lee said. I don't remember what year ECM's did what but I know for a little while they monitored fuel psi. Then with the 555 ECM it would alarm for low/high water psi.
Did you just change the impeller? If it has the brass housing I've seen where the cover plate has worn from debris, this will not allow the pump to make enough water psi at low rpm's to satisfy the ECM.

2002 21v, just looking for some help to, on the 2 short beeps,. ive figured its the trany temp but waited all night to start it back up and right off the bat it beeps!, is this code stored ? or will it go away after the problem is fixed? where can i look to see wich ecm i have? thanks

I do have the 555ECM. I did have a dealer scan the codes and they could not find anything substantial. He said it had a 3 second MAP fault and a couple of others. The dealer wants to take it to the lake and run it at speed and check the faults. I did replace the impeller this year, but it was probably 10 engine hours before the beeps started. The mercruiser page lists the things the engine moniters. They are:
Low Oil Pressure, High Coolant Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Low Sea Water Pressure, Low Voltage, Over-rev control, Knock Control


In the past few days the fuel pump relay has started failing in the on position. I plan to replace it as soon as I can get one. As an added benefit, occasionally we will loose power, shut the engine down and restart and it is good to go. One time I did it fast enough, the guy that was boarding didn't even fall. Pulled it to nuetral, off then on and away we went. But the beeping keeps going and going.

I took it to a different dealer last year and he found the problem. It was part if the intake system. A vacuum controled thing on top of the motor. It had been caused by the belt particles from when we had the missalignment problem on our year Mercruiser motors. Running great now.

The problem with the fuel pump not shutting off was, one of the fuel pump relays had failed. You have to replace both of them to get it to work properly. I don't have any idea why, just by doing it, problem solved.
