has anyone ever replaced a transducer before? The piece that controls the speedometer, besides the obvious, any tips?

What model boat do you have?
The 22ir is probably the hardest to change. The 20v Switch would probably be the easiest.

You will need to unscrew the locking ring, pull the old one out, insert new and tighten locking ring.
