How to lubricate the steering cable??

My steering started to get stiff this season and I keep seeing - lube the cable.

Can someone tell me how to do this?
I see there is a grease fitting on what looks like the rudder shaft in the back of the boat where the steering cable gets attached.
I plan on shooting that w/ some grease.
But I also read to just move the cable cover back and put lube in it. I dont see anywhere to do that.

Any help would be great.

Do not think you can lube the end of the shaft that is binding. The end by the rudder is the end that is getting stiff.
