Can you buy any fuel sending unit to replace an existing one? I have an '00 23v, I have looked at the fuel management systems but don't care to spend the money when I can purchase a sending unit for 50$..

You need to know the depth of the tank and then purchase the correct size unit, WEMA preferred. However, sending units and boats seem to just never work correctly so buyer beware. ALSO, if you're doing it yourself, there is ONLY ONE WAY the holes on the sending units line up in the tank, offset hole pattern.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

Are there ones you can buy and trim accordingly to fit the tank?

Check the gauge first: when you turn the key on, is there any movement on the gauge? If not, check for power. If so, move to next step.
- Locate fuel tank (middle of the belly of the boat) and find the sending unit. Take the pink wire off the center of the sending unit and with the key on, touch it to the tank. If the gauge on the dash goes past full, the sending unit is bad, if nothing happens, the wire is not connected between the gauge and the tank or the gauge itself is bad.
- Start with the easy stuff before you open the tank up.
- Unfortunately, there are no sending units you can trim to fit. There are universal units that you must adjust and set before installing but when replacing, we always use the WEMA senders, easy to deal with.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
