So I'm replacing the impeller on my 2004 21i and the old impeller was completely disintegrated. I removed the hoses going to the raw water pump and found pieces of the old impeller. I then removed the thermostat housing to flush any pieces of the old impeller that may have been in the engine. Not thinking, I decided to flush one of the hoses going to the exhaust manifold, thinking the water will just go out the exhaust. But since the engine was obviously not running, is it possible to for the water to go into one of the cylinders thru the exhaust manifold?? I hope I didn't just turn easy maintenance into a nightmare.
