    03 23v new motor

due to my boat not being winterized, I need a new motor. My boat has the 5.7 black scorpion, does any body have any suggestions on where to get a replacement? I found one here, http://www.usengine.us/mercruiser.html, and the price seems to be good, but has anyone heard of these guys or had any dealings with them? I'm looking to order something tomorrow, so if anybody has any info on a place to get one, let me know. Thanks

Check with Jasper Engines, I think they do marine engines.

Never heard of them but nice price and warranty. Engines look like they come bare long block so be prepared to transfer everything over: vortec intake manifold, distributor, oil pan and support rails, flywheel, front timing cover (YOU MUST USE A NEW ONE), balancer, new drive plate, starter, bell housing, new circulating water pump, hoses and raw water pump and fuel pump and filter, valve covers and exhaust manifolds and risers (would suggest new here too). If you have any questions, PM me and I'll walk you through it.

I googled reviews Of That Place And It Doesn't Look ToO Promising. Anybody Else Know Where I Could Get One Of These Motors? Sorry For The Retarded Typing With Caps, I'm ON My Phone And It Always Does This.

You could always pick up a new Mercruiser Scorpion. You can find an authorized shop on their website.

7yr, 500 hr warranty sounds nice but, the operation looks kinda shady.

yea I went ahead and ordered one through our local tige. they get them through jasper. 18 month warranty and 2895 out the door so not a bad deal.

Truly amazing how cheap it has become to put together a 350 Chevy. I spent way more than that on a tower.

Hey Guys, Finally Got The New Motor In And Have A Question. When Running Wot, What Should The RPMs Be? Right Now It Will Only Run 3400 RPMs Max. It Seems a Little Sluggish Out Of The Hole But Not Bad Up Top, Just Won't Go Over About 29 Mph And 3400 Rpm. Any Help Would Be Associated. tia

Something is not right. You should be closer to 5K rpm and 40+ Mph. Depending on what prop you are running.

The first two things I would look it is A) is the throttle opening all the way then the throttle lever is all the way down. B) base timing. "B" might lead to cam timing, which is not going to be as easy to check.

Good points by chp. I also thought plug wire off or crossed. Its hard to tell if you have something wrong when installing new engine. Or do you have a problem from winter layup. Like bad fuel or water in fuel.

Did you/the shop set base timing correctly? We've had a few customers do their own engine swaps and end up with the same situation. You've got to have the diagnostic computer and a timing gun to verify if it's been done correctly and your WOT should be whatever is listed on the cover of your engine, 4200-4600 ish.

the Timing Was Set At My Local Tige Shop, 8°. I' ll have To Check OuT the throttle To Make Sure It's opening All The Way. It Could Def Have Something To Do With The Gas. I've Put SeafoM And Some Other Fuel System Cleaner In It. thanks For the Tips Guys

I Did Some Digging Around And Found My Knock Sensor Was Unplugged. Would That Affect The way It Runs?

I took the boat out this afternoon after getting the knock sensor plugged in and it def runs better. Still a little bit sluggish. I'm wondering if I need the have the timing set again since it was set with the knock sensor unplugged or if that will make any difference. Another thing I noticed was my rpm's are only going to 3100 but I'm running about 35-36 mph. That got me to thinking so I looked at my perfect pass and set it to run off rpm's. When WOT, the perfect pass was showing 37-3800 rpm's where my tach was showing 3100. Which one do you guys think is right, and should I still be getting more rpm's than what the PP is showing?
