Has this engine been modified?

Im looking at a 2007 24ve that has 5.7L 340 HP engine. However this engine to me looks modified (I am looking at the air filter part). Can someone tell me if this is a stock engine or modified. If it has been modified, is it a no big deal or a stay away modification.

Without digging deeper it looks like they took the flame arestor off and put on an K&N air filter only. Id get rid of the K&N on a boat and go back with the factory flame arestor. Coil and wiring all look stock. Plus no paint scratched off on the bolt heads for the exaust elbows. So probably just the air filter and removal of the cover that typically covers all the electrical connections on top.

To me it looks like the plastic engine cover has been removed along with the original spark arrestor with the K&N filter being added. The owner may have thought that would add to engine performance.

Air filter has been changed...Like Duffy said I have seen K&N on a lot of boats. You could research that one and see if it is marine rated.You might be fine with that one. He didnt throw in the stock when you purchased the boat?

Both the malibu boats next to me in the marina have K&N flame arrestors.

There were Tiges that came with them too. Off the top of my head I think it was only the 6.0L.Mp 2005/6ish. Not %100 sure but I know they had them from the factory. Its not the one pictured in the OP. But more the cone shaped one that comes on the Malibus.I think you will be fine with the one thats on there IMPO.

Thanks everyone for the replys. You have been a great help I have not purchased the boat yet but it makes me feel better that outwardly the engine has not been changed for the worse. Ill keep you posted.
