after boat sits for hour it wont start

Took the boat out Friday night and Monday morning for some wakeboarding sessions and the boat ran great. We trailered it and went back to the camper for breakfast saturday morning and the boat sat for 2 hours or so. I went to drop it in again to go hang out on the water and couldnt get the boat to start. It would crank and try to fire but no luck. It acted like it wasnt getting any fuel. I thought it gotten vapor locked somehow even though my vent is working, so I pulled the fuel line to the fuel water seperator ( I think). It wasnt spewing gas when i cranked on it like i figured it should. I cranked on it long enough and it finally started sputtering and backfiring and i finally got it to rev up and it would run fine again. I kept starting the boat while we were at party cove about every 20 minutes and itd start right up. I let it sit for over an hour and same thing happened. I was gonna try to change the fuel water seperator and see what happens. I wouldnt think it was the fuel pump if itd run fine once it would get started? Any suggestions on what to try to get it fixed.

      Maybe a hot soak problem?

I've had that happen a couple times. I tend to think that it was the Ethanol fuel. I filled with 20% ethanol, and that happened, added Stabil Ethanol Fuel Treatment, and seemed to take care of it. Filled this weekend with super ethanol free, and never had an issue!!

I'll start paying attention to that for now on. Thanks!

I immediately thought vapor lock after reading just the title.

However, I have an old Chevy truck which had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a fuel filter. I hope that's what it is for you too, because it's one of the least expensive parts!

Can I get them at oreillys or do I have to get it at a marine place?

Are you asking about fuel filters? You can get them at any auto parts store. If that doesn't solve the problem, my next step would be a fuel pump. But I always try to fix the cheapest thing first.

I think It's the fuel pump. I have an 06 22 I and it does the same exact thing. Starts great 99% of the time. Just got back from 2 weeks in powell and after it sits for more than a hour it does it everytime. Thing is I just replacement the water/fuel seprator filter before I left so that shouldn't be the problem. I'll let you know after I change the fuel pump. I could actually here the filter not getting fuel and then tapping on fuel pump you could here it sputter and fires right up...
