    Teleflex Extreme Steering Cable

    Hey guys;
    After only 2 seasons, I have to replace my steering cable AGAIN. I believe the SSC13421 is the proper one for an 05' 24V. A buddy told me to switch to the newer Extreme cable offered. Any views on this? Is there a part number I can cross referance to? He also suggested that I get the Hub kit as well.
    Thanks again ..

    I just replaced the cable on my 04 24v this weekend. I ordered the SSC15421 TFExtreme cable and double checked the part number from teleflex. I ordered it from this page, and at $144 it was a great deal!

    I cant say that it was the most simple install, but it did go smoothly, and I found a couple other issues that needed to be fixed as well. The new cable is suppossed to not have the corrosion issues the older version did. I can say the boat steering is amazing now!

      How long did it take you? I've got the same boat. I already have the cable (bought it last fall) but haven't gotten it in yet. Probably going to tackle that when I fly home in a couple weeks. Any lessons learned/pointers/tips. I've read the "how to change your steering cable thread" but just looking to see what your personal experience was. Thanks

        Thanks bigTige72. I was told that I should also get a new hub for an extra $40.00. New gears etc.
        Let us in on some install secrets. Im pretty mechanical, but also get frustrated when things go to s#&t.

          I have the riders edition, so I have the hard ballast tanks. I had to remove the tank on the starbord side to be able to remove the rear bulkhead to have access to the rudder. I found the mount that the cable hooks to to be loose and not tight. Since that was loose, just ended up taking the mount out, and pulling it out as far as I could, and then removing the 1-1/8" nut. I ended up cutting the steering end off, and then pulled the new cable through with the old. I then installed the mount with anti siezeon the cable nut, and threadlocker on the 1/2" bolt (3/4" head). After getting everything in position and set, I hooked up the steering wheel. I could not beleive how easy it turned! One finger and it spins on its own! I then put the floor, and seats back in. I guess I didn't really have to take them out. I did have a buddy help me pull the old cable out, and guide the new one in. I guess it took about 2 or 3 hours, but im sure the next time I do it, it will be much quicker. A couple of friends, and paitence go a long way!

            Did you get the new steering Hub that goes with the Extreme Cable, or us te one you have? I have about an inch of steering play, so I think a new hub is in order as well (?)

              I'm not sure what the hub is? If its the steering wheel mount I did not replace it. I found a lot of play in the loose bracket that is attached to the engine. The steering wheel had no play after install of the new cable.The extreme cable worked perfect with what I already had in the boat. Teleflex said that it was a direct replacement, and it was!

                Did you run the new cable over the fuel tank,or under?

                  I ran it under. I taped the cut end(steering gear off) to the rudder end of the new one and pulled it through. I thought about running it over the tank, but Teleflex said that the new housing is more impervious to water penitration. It was easier to just pull it through, rather than try to reach under the floor forward of the tank, and snake it out. I figured if this goes bad in a couple years, I can reroute the new one now that I know what I'm doing!!
