vibration under power

I have a 99 2100I 350 mag velvet drive transmission. yesterday after riding for a short time the driveline started vibrating as if it had a damaged propeller. Close inspection of the propeller showed no signs of damage at all there was also no debris stuck in fins or prop. Trans fluid is clean, however I am not sure on the level. Do I check it with the engine off or running? I have heard of engine and trans alinement issues causing vibration problems do this happen suddenly? Also I am in northwest Iowa and do not trust the service dept. of the local dealer so fi anyone can reccommend a dealer maybe in the kansas city or minneapolis area that would be great.

Thats a tough call. Could be the strut bearing has worn out. But im not sure.

I would assume that the fluid level should be checked while the engine is off for the most accurate reading.

engine/trans shaft alignment most likely is the issue if its not the strut bearing. It could happen over time that the engine has moved slightly.

check the coupler bolts. they could be loose.

No, shaft mis-alignment does not happen fast unless the engine mount bolts came loose.

Check trans level immediatly after shutting down the engine.

Could be as simple as the prop out of balance.

I have bent a prop. The guy I took it too, said that it wasn't far enough out of wack to produce vibration. He said I should check the drive shaft. I had already put on my spare, and taken the boat out. It ran fine. I told him that. He was very surprised.

My point. You may not be able to tell, but it doesn't take much, to bend a prop. That could be your problem.

That is correct. The smallest nick on the prop can make all the difference in the world. The first thing to check if you ever get a vibration is the prop. Remember the shaft is 1 1/8' think and it will take a lot to bend it. 99% of the time its the prop that has caused the vibration.
