    09rz4 steering cable

about 200hrs ,seems premature. it hasnt broken just getting harder and harder each time out. dealer says about 125.00$ and probably is the problem due to all the bends created in the tige's . anyone else had this problem this early and how hard is it to replace

My '09 is becoming very stiff, as well. I haven't tackled it yet - but will probably need to after this summer. I agree that replacing the cable after only three years is

Mine had about 200 hours on it and it needed it. It is not too hard. I can't recall if the issue with the gas tank was fixed by '09 or not. They put the cable in then the gas tank. In order to go the original way you have to make the hole bigger. The other option that some dealers are doing is going over the bulkhead and cutting a new bigger hole. I went the original way and make the hole bigger. I think that it is worth it to do it yourself.

Check the how to for steering cable, lots of advise there.

One thing that I would make sure is that you get the newer cable.

It starts SSC154xx, where the xx are the length. The old cable is SSC134xx. Some of the dealers have the old cables laying around. You can check out Teleflex's website for more information.

Sorry for multiple threads. My brother just changed his in his Ski Centurion, just over 200 hours. He got his from here:

          http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/s...yword=SSC15418

He said he got it quick. That was about $50 cheaper than I paid last Nov, and I searched high and low. He called the place and talked to them and it was a dealer or pro shop that was using this for internet sales.

I am not affiliated with them.

Is the steering cable the same cable that controls the throttle?

No, throttle is separate from steering. Plus, on newer boats (can't remember the year Tige switched), the throttle is electronic rather than a moving cable.

No the newer one is not longer. You get the size based on what you need. I mentioned that many of the dealers are using longer cables because they are going over the bulkhead into the front compartment and then cutting a new hole. If you go the original route you can get the same size cable as what you have on today. Having done the original way and reading all the input that is in the thread, I did not think that it was that bad. I myself didn't want to go over the bulk head and cut a completely new hole in the floor.

                    Thanks Dingleberry

I've got a 2007 RZ2 - do you use the Teleflex cable for steering? What cable do you need for the throttle?
