How to get this drain plug any tighter?

My wife says this drain plug is leaking (see circle) (I'm 10k miles away). Is there a trick to tightening this up anymore? Does it serve some kind of pressure relief purpose? I've only got a knock sensor on one side and this on the other (if I'm remembering correcly...haven't seen the engine since last fall)

    Thanks

Its just a drain petcock. They actually make a socket for those. it may just have some rust built up on it, causing it to leak. Pull it out and clean it with a wire brush or sandpaper.

It's 1/4"npt (pipe thread) and if you want you can use a brass pipe plug to replace the petcock (do not use steel).

I'm thinking open is all the way in and closed is all the way out, in which case it looks like I opened it last fall and they just need to close it?

Also make sure to let her know when you pull that plug, a lot more water from the block will drain out and its ok. Make sure the motor isn't hot she could get burnt.
