Overheating

I'm doing this from afar (I'm in Singapore - boat is in Austin). I pulled my plugs last fall and pulled the trans cooler hose and left it that way. I wasn't planning on spending the next 10 months away from home. My wife went to take the boat out for the first time yesterday and she and her friend got the plugs in but forgot/didn't notice the trans hose was off. They dropped it in the water and started it up..noticed it was taking on water and overheating (suprise). Anyhow...turned it off and noticed the hose. They pulled it out of the water and tried again today, and it overheated again. Ideas? I'm going to assume we should check the impellar. Also.. I wonder if a critter made a home over the winter? I've not had a chance to interrogate her yet, she did mention the exhaust was hot but I doubt she checked both headers. Being 10,000 miles away from home is awesome!

You are on the right track, probably fried the impeller from lack of water to lube it. Only takes a few seconds and it is toast.

ya.. I'm trying to remember how it's piped...does it go through the trans cooler first before it hits the impeller? So basically nothing in the system was getting any cooling/water?

Thanks guys...I'll have her check, though she's probably not terribly interested in climbing in there and screwing with that with it being 100+ every day I won't be home until September.

Definitely toasted. Got 1 more + a backup on the way. Anyone have a good reference for back flushing the system. I've been searching around but have found anything great for her to reference.

Strohlde, tried to post on your other thread but it didn't work. Looks to me like the petcock in your pic. is open. Did she try turning it to tighten it?

Ya.. I deleted but reposted another. Apparently yes, they've tried but can't get it any tighter...is there a trick to it?

Sometimes you have to turn them to the left to close the petcock.
Hope you already got it fixed and are running again.

ya.. it was the opposite direction. She had it out on the lake, and other than the sometimes wanting to stall issue (that we still can't figure out) that's carried over from last summer it ran alright from what I hear.
