Ok going on 2 years now with a squeaky belt. Replaced the belt, idler pulley and bracket, and tensioner pulley. Belt squeaks on start up and under a load. It gets better the longer we are out and once it warms up. Any ideas? I could use some help.

I've seen it happen several times with a heavily loaded alternator or one with a failing bearing. Pull the belt off and give the alt pulley a spin as well as the circulating pump pulley. They should have little to no resistance and make at least 1 revolution before stopping when spun hard by hand.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine... -
i have a 99 21v and have the same issue that will not go away. i am pretty sure mine is the water pump, this is the last things to replace since temp always held at 175 degrees always. I replaced everything else so this has to be it. at least for me. rebuilt alternator, new impellar housing, both pulleys replaced. only thing after water pump would be the crank...Comment

Squealing belt
Two problems, one the belt pulley design is bad. The belt only touches a very limited ammount of the lower pulley which in turn makes it slip real easy. Just look a the belt diagram and you will know what I am talking about. Second its hard to keep the belt tight enough. Third the major cause of the squeal is the belt gets glazed because water drips straight down on top of the belt because of the center cover disign and makes the belt slip. When it slips it gets hot and glazes the belt. I purchased a plastic gutter at the lumber yard and cut it to fit right under the center lid. Now the water runs to the sides when someone climbs in instead of on the belt.
