24Ve 2006 I just had my steering cable replaced (not sure if they messed with anything up?). Now when I went to do a test run, I can not get the motor to rev up when in neutral. I does not do anything when i start it. It runs, but not smooth at all I need to rev it up. I have perfect pass that has failed in the past. Does this have anything to do with it?

Throttle not working

^^^^ His 06 Ve should be a TBW (throttle by wire) so no cable on the engine. But, it sounds like the throttle control is not disengaging the trans, but is actuating the engine throttle.
I do not see how a steering cable install could cause this, unless they rerouted the cable over the gas tank and its jammed up the shift cable/linkage at the transmission. But still, the disengagement is at the throttle control, not the trans end. May just be a coincidence. May need to pull the throttle control asm and see whats going on on the back side.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

I could not see the cable moving at all. Started again and still nothing. I called VS Marine in Atascadero CA and spoke to the service. They asked what happens when its in gear? I told them I was told never to put in gear out of water. They said spay WD-40 and the shaft while you run it ???? So I tired and the throttle did not affect the power at all. I have now taken it the my Local guy...we will see!!!!!!!!!!! He said NEVER RUN OUT OF WATER IN GEAR.

In your OP, you mention a Perfect Pass failure in the past. Do you posibly have a V and not a Ve?
Is the Knock sensor connector plugged up? This tends to get unplugged during winterizing.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

This weekend my brother inlaw and I changed the steering cable in our 20v, when we went to test out the boat at the ramp we experienced the exact same issues you are describing. Engine started right up but ran rough and wouldnt response to throttle. Do you know where the marine power module is located? Curious if it is something that got knocked when we were working under the dash or when we were routing the cable. Boat is at the dealer right now.... not looking forward to that $400 bill.

marine power poor service
Well not paid out the $425.....my mechanic talked to marine power and told him my motor was the first year they came out with fly-by-wire. They had many problems with the controlers. Marine power said I was SOL since my motor was over 5 years old. Yes even though they were having many problems on all of the first year controllers.

This is what I was told by my dealer. They called Marine power and all the codes they were getting called for the moduler to be replaced. They replaced it I now have power!! They told them that they having a lot of problems with this, as the first year they stared using the fly-by-wire. I can them and get the codes and more info. Man I did not want to kick put 425 if I did not have to. I have already too many issues.

I got an update from my dealer yesterday afternoon and our problem was not the controller. When we went to test the boat we didint install the "stereo" battery, I didnt think it was an issue because it was showing normal voltage on the dash from the starter battery. The dealer connected both batteries and the problem was gone. In hindsight we should have spent more time diagnosing the problem and put everything back together better but we were running out of time over the weekend and I thought we may have messed something up during the steering cable installation.
