I am having the same problem on my 2002 21v riders edition, where do we find the merc news on how to fix the belt problem. It seems like I heard there needs to be some spacers put on one of the pulleys. I also need a new bracket that holds the adjuster pulley for the serpentine belt since I can't crank it up any higher because it looks like the groves are wearing out from excessive tightening. How much is this piece and can I put it on myself with out any type of torque wrench?

call your local merc dealer with your engine model and s/n #. you don't need any special tools. they should know about the shims. if not call tige they might be able to help.Greg Denton
