When starting the engine, sometimes the alarm continues even after the engine is running. It won't go off unless I turn of the engine and then restart it. It happens about 25% of the time. When I turn off the engine and then start it again it always works properly - meaning the alarm goes out after the engine is running as it should. Any ideas why the alarm stays on sometimes and not other times?

Faulty sensor for either lower oil pressure (located port side at the actual rear of the engine, forward in the boat in your case b/c it's a v-drive, just below the exhaust manifold, just above the oil filter hoses coming off the block); faulty high trans temp sensor (located at top of transmission, two wires NOT YELLOW WITH RED STRIPE) or faulty high engine temp sensor. Identify and locate these sensors, they should all have quick disconnect harnesses, and while the alarm is going, individually remove and determine which one is the cause. Good luck.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

This may be on NO value ... but ...
On our old SeaRay IO Merc ... we had a fluid reservoir on one side on the engine (think it was tran fluid, but not sure) ... this had a low level sensor and was the alarm that screamed as we started the boat and then went off if level was ok. When this fluid was changed, it would trap some air for awhile and when it burped, the level in the reservoir would drop dramatically and set off the alarm.

Thanks Boatwakes. I forgot I put this question out there. I will do just what you are saying and see what I come up with. End of the season now so I may have to print off your instructions and put them somewhere I will find them at the beginning of next season. Thanks again for the help...to all on this board.
