(03 21i) Recently I've been noticing a gas smell when I slow the boat down from wakeboarding speeds (21-22 mph). I've checked the fuel fittings and tank vent check-valve and can not smell or see any gas around those places or in the engine compartment. My only thought at this point is that when I throttle back to pick up the wakeboarder excess fuel is dumping out the exhust and circulating air from slowing down is bringing the gas smell forward in to the boat. Anyone run across this problem?

so this is something new? it just started after 2 years? i'd go back and recheck the fuel vent. maybe sit back there next to it when someone else is driving. see if you can smell the gas more or less. as for excess gas from the exhaust, you would have one seriously bad running engine if that were the case.Greg Denton

Hey Greg it's Gary O. in Canyon Lake. The smell started this past winter. I replaced the fuel vent check valve a couple of weeks ago and still have the problem. The motor runs great so I was only throwing a dart in the dark about excess fuel entering the cyclinders when I throttled back the engine. Next time I go out I'll sit back by the tank vent and check if the fumes are from there. The fitting for the vent line is at the back of the fuel tank so I would think that when you slow down the gas will move away from the vent hole. I'm a little
