    Overheating problem

I have a '97 PRE 2150 WT with the Chevy 350. Lately it has been having major cooling problems, however only when sitting idle. I fired it up the other day and watched it rise above 180 degrees in less than forty seconds. This problem is only occurring when under 20000 rpm's. The impeller looks fine and I have had no problems with the boat in the past. Ideas?

Sounds like a warn impeller housing possible or incorrect impeller.

Well thanks for the quick reply! Warn housing has been mentioned more than once now. Guess it's time to get off my butt and check it out.

Take it over 20000 rpm's to get more water flowing...that should do it. jk..definately check the impeller and for a blockage.

Problem solved. The raw water intake had sucked up a piece of a plastic bag. A little weird, but it was an easy fix!

Folow the water lines to where water goes after it leaves the water pump. In my 02 350 merc there is a black cylinder about the size of a soda can at the end of this hose. Pull the hose off and make sure nothing is blocking the screen inside the "can". Years ago mine was clogged with sea weed and broken off impeller pieces.
