    No power 01 21V limited

went out today and my boat has no power. First time out and no power. At idle, mid range, WOT runs fine. So while the kids were swimming I decided to take the cap off and it is pretty carbon-ed up. So I see that as must change the cap and rotor. which I replace 2 years ago. I would have thought they would have lasted longer then that?? I have a filled up the tank with fresh gas. It was left over winter with maybe 10 gallons but had stabil in it. I also have a fresh fuel filter as of Nov when I winterized it. I never hear it misfire. I just don't have the power it normally does. I tried pulling my nine yr old daughter who weighs a wopping 68 lbs. on the wakeboard and it took longer then expected to get her up and holding speed was tough. I had to run her with taps set at slalom. If I would put it anywhere near wake boarding loose speed.

Any thoughts would be great. I have cap and rotor on order.

    Thanks

I've had the same issue lately on my boat.... why are you getting bumped? This seems like a good thread... I hve the exact same boat and have noticed the same thing... Like it is way to hard to pull someone out of the water and hold speed... No ideas????

My issue turned out being 2 bad fuel injectors. Look around your fuel rail and look at the connectors. I had one that was completely broke from the injector and the other was cracked.
On land testing you couldn't hardly tell there was something wrong. Once on the water under load you could tell some thing was up, but it didn't miss fire once even under load.
Now I and zip up to 40 mph plane within sec's. Runs great now.

I'm having the same exact problem with a 99 Tige 21V that I just picked up about a week ago. Ran great the first couple times out.

Any other suggestions for getting back power when trimmed to Wakeboard? I replaced the fuel/water seperator and it runs much better now (Must have been very dirty).

However, when pulling somebody on a wakeboard i have to set the Taps to Slalom to have the speed to get up?? Have to turn Perfect Pass off also to get someone up??

Im in between changing all the spark plugs (in case one or two arent firing?) or having the fuel injectors looked at? Is there an easy way to tell if these are in need of replacing?

I would pull the filter and catch all its contents in a glass jar. I would look more for water being the issue then a dirty/plugged filter.

Without knowing the entire service history, it may be a good idea to just go ahead and replace the wear-items like plugs, cap, rotor, wires. This may not fix it, but its an easy way to eliminate these maintenance items that me be due, or past due, for replacement.

              chpthril,
Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll go ahead and change the spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires. I bought my fuel/seperator filter just down the road at Napa Autoparts, what do you think about getting spark plugs etc at an autoparts store, compared to MercuryMarine online?

A friend mentioned it might be an electrical component due to the fact that in neutral the boat will rev up to 3500 4500 no problem, but when towing set on Wakeboard, it struggles to get past 26 or 2800 rpm?? Let me know if you have any more suggestions.

              Thanks again.

I would definately replace all service items. Probably should be done anyway. Sounds like a fuel problem to me. Make sure you have good gas and like samw said, check those injectors. Good luck.

Fuel Issue Fixed, Marine Stabil and New Fuel Water Seperator Filter

Just thought I would add on here in case anyone else is having a loss-of-power problem. (boat seems like it is pulling a trailer/bogging down not getting the power your used to)

After replacing the cap rotor plugs, and then doing an oil change/oil filter, the fuel water seperator (which had clear jelly looking gas after pouring contents into a jar most likely from ethanol in the gas), my Tige 21V is running much better.

I think also that adding the blue Stabil-Marine into the gas and running a tank or so through it, all of the sudden, the boat has its power back.

Wanted to say thanks for all the good advice to everyone who posted. I appreciate it, and best of luck to anyone else working through the same issues.

So I looked at the fuel rail and barley touched one of the injector connectors(or what I think is an injector.. maybe it is just a sensor though.. there are 4 of them on each side running along/underneath the fuel rail) and it just fell right off... I'm trying to find some threads on replacing these and getting new connectors.. let me know if you have any advice or good threads to look at.. Thanks!
