TRANNY WHINE IN NEUTRAL?

[LOANER]

I HAVE AN 02 21IR AND AFTER RUNNING FOR A WHILE ON THE WATER THE TRANNY WILL SCREAM WHEN IN NEUTRAL.

IF I PUT IT IN FORWARD OR REVERSE IT'S FINE. BACK TO NEUTRAL AND THE SCREAMING STARTS(ITS LOUD, EVERYONE IN THE BOAT WAS ALARMED)

IT'S INTERMITENT. IF I TURN OFF THE MOTOR AND RESTART IT'S FINE. I CHECKED THE FLUIDS, AND IT'S PRETTY & PINK, NO BURNT ODOR.

ANYONE WITH SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?

is it pretty and pink as in a strawberry milkshake pink, or is it red and translucent?

looks brand new. red and translucent. not milky at all.

I"ve heard they are tricky to check trany levels??
Perhaps your the one in a million that the dip sick was made 1/4 in. longer.

fwd and reverse are good, neutral is bad?????

maybe there is some debris caught in a pressure valve in the shift spool? try running a tranmission fluid flush/cleaner through it?

Foamy Pink Tranny Fluid

I checked my tranny fluid recently and it was just as you described - strawberry milkshake pink. In fact there was light pink foam pretty high on the dipstick.

Should I be concerned?
What does this indicate?
What should be done.

If the fluid is pink it has water in it and will need to be changed until the fluid stops turning pink when the tranny is put in to gear and the fluid mixes it self up.

what lee said. but 1 more thing, where did it come from? that is what you need to find out. no sense in just changing the fluid to have the same thing happen again.

Could water get into the transmission from the bilge?
I was a bonehead and launched the boat without the drain plug early in the season, filled the bilge pretty full before I was able to get back on the trailer and out.

Or would you suspect something else?

I've started to notice a strange rattle sound at idle with the boat in neutral, and a lot of rumble when getting up out of the whole (I think it's more than just the normal prop cavitation). Would these be symptoms of a problem developing?

I guess I'll try changing the fluid and see what happens.
