    Sludge in transmission

I was changing the transmission oil yesterday on my '01 21V and noticed some grey/black sludge on the end of my tube that I used to siphon the oil out when I pulled it out. It doesn't seem like a good sign. Is there a way to drain the fluid from the bottom or flush it? Anyone else had this issue?

Fill, run until warn, shift from N-F-N-R-N and drain again.

Great, thanks. I'll do that when I take it out next spring. Do you know if this is normal or a sign of damage?

Could be from lack of changing the fluid.

I changed it last winter, so I don't think its that. It has sat for the last month since I took it out of the water, so I guess any sludge in the oil would have settled to the bottom.

Then the clutches could be going out.

Okay, thanks. I guess that means a rebuild or new tranny. Either way I'm guessing it's expensive. I'll be crossing my fingers it lasts a few more seasons.
