Saltwater once or twice a year?

    Hello all,

I am considering buying a 2000 21V. Here is my dilemma. I live in Southern California, 15mins away from the beach. I grew up with an I/O boat and we took it in the saltwater once or twice a summer. Always rinsed engine, thoroughly cleaned boat after use.

Would it be detrimental to use this boat in the ocean a couple times a year in the summer? I would definitely mostly be using it at lakes and in freshwater. But it’s hard to have a large body of water so close to me and feel as if I can never use the boat there. And would it be helpful/necessary to add a closed cooling system?

    Any advice is appreciated

Welcome to the site. I am in San Clemente. I have never taken my 97 2150 in the ocean. I have taken my Kawasaki Jet skis in frequently. I rinse and flush them with salt away after every ride. I would think a closed loop system would be better. The trailer will take the biggest hit. You can't rinse them well enough and get inside the frame rails. It will rust and they aren't cheap to replace. IMO not worth it. Lake Perris or Elsinore? My neighbor takes his Sanger frequently to the Carlsbad Lagoon so brackish water. He hasn't complained about any issues.
