We were out on Possum Kingdom Lake on Sat and had some problems. Cruising along when the Wife said the engine sounded louder. I do an immediate check of the gauges and see that the temp gauge is up to 200-205 range so I immediately go to neutral. This is when the alarm goes off so I shut down the engine and open the hatch to see what is wrong. First look the top pulley wheel on the starboard side is gone and the serpentine belt is in the bilge in one piece. I don't know how long it had been off.
I have the Merc 350 MAG MPI engine. It will crank for a few seconds(2-3) then stops so I don't think it is siezed. Just wondering what kind of internal damage I could have or is it as simple as replacing the pulley, mounting the serp belt and checking the timing and such???? Is the serp belt also the timing belt for the valves or is that internal??? I checked the oil and no water in it that I can tell, it may seem a little scorched but very fainly. Like I said the alarm didn't sound until I went to neutral and stopped and the engine ran until I shut it off with the key, all in a matter of a few seconds.
I know it is hard to diagnose from this but just want to know what expect. Thoughts.....
Thanks
