    debris in water intake

I went out boating last weekend (in my 2000 21V with a 350 Mag MPI) and there was a lot of grass in the water, and I think I got some in the water intake. When I ran the boat hooked up to the hose afterward, there was less water coming out of the exhaust than normal. I tried taking apart the hose that connects from the thru hull to the v-drive, but had no luck. The hose is so short and stiff, that I can't get it to come off the ends. I've loosened the hose clamps and have the end of the hose loosened (so it will rotate) but can't get it off the thru hull or v-drive. Any suggestions?

One idea I had was to cut the hose and buy a replacement. Does anyone know the specifications of the hose I'd need to use to replace what's there? All I know is 1 1/4" ID. I'd like to go to Westmarine and pick up a replacement.

I'm also thinking of installing a sea strainer as I regularly boat in this waterway that has grass often at the beginning of the summer. Any suggestions for which model to get?

Get the blue stripe 1.25" inside diameter hose with wire to replace what you currently have. Cut it and replace it and the hose clamps. You do not need a sea strainer but be sure to unclog the transmission cooler before you finish the hose installation.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
