    Transmission issues?

2015 RZ2 raptor 400. Any tige mechanics in here? Took my boat again to test it to see if I was having cavitation issues the other day or not. Its still acting up. When launching out of the hole every once in a while I loose all push and will jerk a few times. Im curious what the inside of these transmissions are like. I hear they are gear to gear. If so then trans slippage doesnt seem like the issue. Any incite would be great. Thank you.

I believe they have 2 hydraulic clutch packs.
Not 100% on that year / model though. It may just be an issue of a loose connection on one of the solenoid valves though.

Any idea where i could find a service manual?

Not a clue. There are some ppl on here that work on these regularly that may have a resource. The Will probably chime in eventually.

Could also just be low on oil. Check the obvious stuff first.

Oil is full. I marked the prop and drive shaft. Also the shaft with the V drive. Nothing has moved in those areas. So in down to the engine or trans. I dont feel like its and engine issue or you would think it would happen more often even at idle. I had it out today. When I left the lift i idled out about a hundred yards and punched it. Everything worked fine. I dropped throttle and did a hole shot probably 5-8 times before it started to act up. I can punch it out of the hole and all is good until almost on plane about 20mph and it slips and i drop throttle. I'm too nervous to try and power through it. I can't find any info online about how these shift if they even do. It sounds like there is some sort of electronic shifting from what I have researched. I'm stumped at what to look at next. I am going to call my local dealer and see how far out they are for service work and to see of they have had any complaints similar to this. But in guessing they will be booked for a few weeks so I would like to try and figure it out myself if possible. I am an auto mechanic by trade so taking it apart isnt an issue I just dont know how these transmissions work

SRK...I work on boats for a living and I have questions:

              1) When did this begin since your ownership of the boat?
              2) Please explain what you mean when you say "launching out of the hole" and "punching it". For reference, a transmission or v-drive driven boat DOES NOT and WILL NOT consistently and over time respond to what most of us review "launching" or "punching it" to mean as an idle-to-full throttle acceleration. To do so is asking the hydraulically activated clutch pack internals of a pleasure craft duty transmission to maintain constant hydraulic lock up against a shock load of full pull as if it's on a dynamometer every time you do it. If this is what is happening, I can without a doubt tell you the problem is your transmission and due to improper boat operation. Boat owners SHOULD know and understand rolling into the throttle is an effective and efficient way to produce consistent transmission operation... and by this I mean power up over about a 5-8 second period from idle to cruising, surf, wakeboarding or water skiing speeds.
              3) Have you sampled the transmission and v-drive fluid yet? If not, do so and let us know what the lab says.

Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

When this first acted up I was cruising at about 25mph.

Fluid is not lab tested but will be changed this week.

Buy the words launching or hole shot I don't mean 0 to WOT. I'm not throttling any harder then any other boat I have driven fully loaded pulling a ride.

Got any pictures of these solenoids? I'm not picturing what you are talking about. I do remember seeing one large looking solenoid on the right side of the trans but not entirely sure what you are talking about.

                  Thanks

Ok thanks. Ill look next time I'm in the boat. So you know who manufacturers these transmissions. I can't find any online that look the same. A couple are similar but are under mount shaft where mine is a through mounted shaft. Indmar told me a couple websites to attempt to find parts but nothing looks correct

Yes I figured that part out when researching my issue.

Any chance you know the specific velvet drive model? Even searching velvet drive i can't seem to find any transmissions that look the same. Also seems like borg warner and velvet are the same? I am still only finding trans and v drives with under mount not through mount

So lets say I swap those solenoids and one of them is opening when hot. Will it change the point of slippage? I am taking it out for the day saturday. I may have a scope available and can scope the solenoids while in driveing around

I agree with freeheel but from experience with transmissions in yachts, workboats and wakeboats, your description of events evokes a fluid temp issue causing the clutches to slip. Keep us updated but where are you at with the fluid sample?

So I didn't have the fluid tested. I sucked it out. Added fresh. Ran it a few times. Changed it again. Everything seemed fine. However today I started to act up in rough water. Also my touch screen was freaking out so I shut everything down to reboot the screen. When turning the battery switch back on I had full power but would not crank. No starter click or anything. Started to check some fuses. All were good. From what i could tell with out any tools. Decided to look under the cook pit at the wiring there. Since I was getting pissed I started slapped both modules a couple times and she fired right up. Now I feel like I have an electrical issue. Do any of those modules supply power to the transmission? Also if they do and it have an electrical issue. What would happen if the solenoid lost power? Would it act as if it were in neutral? Today when it was acting up it felt like it was going into neutral and revving the engine. The first time it was acting up it felt more like a shutter. So part of me is think maybe its electrical due to the no starter issue I had today. Any thoughts? If I have time I want to hook up a scope and watch the solenoids.
