    My belt slipped off and!

The belt slipped off and the boat was beeping on high temp. So I turned it off and let it cool down. I waited to the temp. was low and tried to start the boat and The starter engaged but it just grinded so I didn't try to start it again. I had the belt back on but it's like it wouldn't turn over? What should I look for as far as a problem area or a reset of some type thanks for the help. 01 Tige 23V Scorp. motor

I checked all fluids and everything looks good...

How long do you think the motor ran w/out the belt?

was it a thunk or a grinding?

        Belt

Maybe 5 min. at 200 and it's a grinding sound like the flywheel is not turning when the starter kick's out.

hope you didn't spin a bearing. I overheated my engine when my belt slipped and threw. It made a loud clunking sound, for about 5 min. Let it sit a minute until it finally turned and fired. I'm assuming that everything expanded a bit when it overheated causing it to lock, then when it cooled it fired. Since then everything has run perfect. Hopefully she will turn over for you.

If your starter wont turn it over try getting a wrench on the on the front of the crankshaft and turning it. If it wont budge you have seized the motor . It should turn without to much force.

              belt

I don't think I siezed the motor I didn't let it get very hot at all. My car runs at 210 all day so I think the bearings are fine I'll try turning it over with a wrench.

I'm really new at all this, but I had my belts (both) break 3 hours after I bought it. Once I found the right size, I bought 4 just to have two extra's bc they are cheap.

Got the new one's on good and tight, lasted about 25 hours and while checking everything out one day, I noticed they were frayed a bit and there was that rubber crap in the motor area. Checked the belts, and of course they were loose.

Again I put tightened everything up really good, but this time I put blue loc-tite on the screw for the alternator since that is where my tension comes from.

Someone more experienced will be along shortly to tell me I'm doing it wrong, but that's what has worked for me so far.

                  I might have...

The motor wouldn't turn over!!! Can I get a break over bar and try to free it up? If the motor is trashed that really sucks, I have had the boat for a month and have only put 4 hrs on it.Help

take the belt off and try turning it over. while the belt is off try turning the water pump by hand. It would help to know what motor you have. eng. manufacture, year and size

If you cant bar the engine over you may have a seized bearing or worse, a thrown rod cap

Did you try taking out the spark plugs? That would relieve the compression, if your trying to turn it with a wrench.

TAKE THE BELT OFF AN CHECK ALL BELT DRIVEN ACCESSORIES FIRST! Make sure they all spin by hand a locked up alt. or water pump can cause the motor to not turn over. Mercruisers are the worst at this. thats why I would like to know what eng. you have.
