    Transmission

This summer I developed a leak in the transmission and have to put a half a quart in every 10-15 hours. I delt with it due to the long turn over time at the shop and the fact the season here is only about 5 months. Now it is a half a quart every 5 hours. I would like to keep from going to the shop until it is time to winterize in 1.5 months. Is this ok to do. I looked all over and do not see where it is coming from, but my guess it is faulty seal. The boat is a 08 22VE with 80 hours on it. I am hoping to get another 20 before it gets to cold. I ask the local marina guys and they said that the transmission in boats does not require alot of attention and they have seen boats that have gone years without care.

    What is yalls opinion.

    Thanks.

Well ATF isn't cheap... but if you wanna keep paying for it and stay on top of it, I guess your ok. Just if you ever mess up and forget to check it, during the day... could be a costly mistake.

its only 5-6 bucks a quart.

Just stay on top of it and check it frequent until you get it repaired.

I have some amsoil ATF I will sell you, I can't use it. My manual said mine used ATF, but when I pulled the dipstick it was motor oil.

Exactly ... and if he uses his boat like some of us, that's an extra $140 a month... Not a giant chunk of change, but I'd rather put that towards a new board, or new speakers or something.

Take a look at where the tranny meets the bell housing , dead center on top there is a small aprox. half inch in dia. allen plug thats a preasure port for the shift lever , I have found them leaking on a few trannys, you can start the engine and watch it closesly because its hard to see , sometimes with it in gear and oil will start seeping out that maybe your leak.
If it is, pull the plug ,clean it and teflon seal it, this has fixed a few for me , the tranny is a very durable unit.

Thank you all for your replys, I will keep on "feeding the cow" until it is time to winterize it. Good thing about it is should all be still way in warranty, since I bought it new exactly one year ago. I will check the pressure plug as well.
