surging/ slipping/ weird

Hi. I have a 06 22ve and have been surfing with it lately. We have only had the boat for about a week so have only put about 5 hours on it. (total hours are 90 on boat) We put about 800 lbs of water in the starboard rear locker, with 3 adults and have got a really good wave and the boat is quite leaned over. However today it sounded like the trans was slipping, or something was going on. It would hesitate for a bit and make a weird surging sound for about 1/2 a second then it would go away. Not sure what it is. Any suggestions on what to check would be great. This is my first wakeboard boat so if you can keep the explanations very detailed i would really appreciate it. Could we be working the motor to hard and causing over heating? Cavitation? Fuel delivery problems? Thanx

shouldnt be fuel delivery problems.
Check the Tranny fluid, if its slipping it might just be low on fluid. very simple fix. With that weight, im pretty sure you arent over working the motor, so i doubt that could be your problem.

Check the tranny fluid, then get back to us.

Im sure someone else on here could give you some better ideas

cavitation, mine does it especially if there is a bunch of other boats. Is it kind of loud and you can feel it? If so I would bet a million it just cavitation.

My first guess would be cavitation. If you're running a stock prop, then I'd consider downpitching it a bit. There's another thread about specials on the ACME 1235 that you look at if you're going to be doing more wakesurfing with a heavily loaded boat. It'll be a lot easier for your Speed Set to maintain speed with a downpitched prop. You will lose some top end, but it's usually only 2-3 Mph, depending on the prop you get. Personally, I don't need to be going more than 35 most of the time, so I don't care.

It might not hurt to check the tranny fluid level because this would be my second guess. However, if it's fine, then my first guess is the problem.

IMO, 800lbs in the 22Ve is not enough to create enough list for the prop to catch air/slip/cav. Unless that 800 + a few big peeps. A bent prop would be my first suspicion, then trans fluid level.

If all is well mechanically, and it is prop cav, then the ACME 1235 is the perfect upgrade as noted. Ours did it only when the water was choppy, but not consistently.

exhaust water jacket also hot

Thanx for the response thus far, the prop looks fine and it is only doing it when the motor was working very hard while surfing. We did notice now that the port side exhaust manifold is significantly warmer than the other side. You can still touch it but it very warm. Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix it? Also could the heat be causing a fuel problem with the load and heat? We are in Canada so the air temp is not hot like it is in the southern States (about 95 at the most)

checked trans fluid, ran boat at speed, Then shut it off and checked fluid within 30 secs. Fluid was on upper end of stick but not over.

On most boats, one jacket will be warmer than the other. If there was a problem, your boat would be alarming due to overheating. But it does make me ask you when you last replaced your impeller. Your boat is 3 years old now and if you've never done it, you're boating on borrowed time. Impellers generally last about 2 years give or take.

I don't think you have a fuel problem. It's more likely a drive train problem. Chpthril makes a good observation, so you might want to look into that.

Sorry for the edit, everyone answered faster than I could type. I have two dipsticks on my tranny setup, yours may be different. Look about 8 inches further towards the engine, there should be another dipstick.
Does it make a slurping sound every few seconds? Any oil in bilge?
