Belt/Pulley Problem

I have a 2002 21V and am currently having a problem with squealing from a belt/pulley. I had to replace the impeller on my fresh water pick up after it seized. The replacement went smooth enough (thank you tigeowners.com) however since I've put the pump back on we've had a problem with the squealing. I've put a new belt on and don't think that's an issue. I've noticed that the noise goes away if I WD-40 the pulley off the pump and the pulley off the alternator.

I'm stuck - any ideas?

When we got our 21V the first thing I did was replace the impeller because it had been sitting for 2 years.
We had a belt squealing problem, too.
When I replaced the raw water pump I didn't get the pump to bracket bolts tightened completely and it worked loose causing a slight off-angle of the pulley.
With the squealing there was fine black rubber dust being thrown off as the edges of the belt wore down.
I ended up using longer bolts with double-nuts and drilled the bracket to add a 4th bolt that is cast in the pump, but not used by the bracket.
No further problem in over 100 hrs.
Probably not your problem, but maybe.
Isn't there is a idler pulley between the raw water pump and the alt? (idler pulley - 807757T, 6 groove, Dayco - 00078, Dynaflex - 231086)
Check the bearing in the idler pulley and make sure all the pulleys are in alignment.

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned about the pulley's not being in alignment - especially since the seawater pick-up pump pulley seems to have a slight "wobble" while spinning.

How do you check to make sure the pulleys are in alignment?

Seawater pump

My seawater pump, (I thought) was causing the squelling. It was wobbly and the water seal was spraying water on the belt, so I bought a new pump. $300, minus the pulley. If you go that route, get the pulley, you will never get the old one off without damaging it. I had a 12 ton press, and I just bent it all up. However the moral to my story is the seawater pump was not the squeeling trouble. It was the alternator. But not the alternator itself, because I knew the noise was coming from there, and I bought a new one on ebay for $120. Upon changing it I realized the alternator bracket was snapped in 2. I welded mine back together. No more squeel. I bet that bracket is broken on your boat. It iss only a $20 part. And has been a crappy design at least since 1997, on my friends ski centurion, same braket, he has gone through 3 of them.

You may have to replace the bearings on the pulley and impeller. Mine had to be replaced a couple of years ago when my alternator went out. They do wear out after a while.

if you open the rear drivers side hatch and take the motor cover off the top and the side panel out you can see the alternator. there are 2 bolts that are easy to see. That broacket is probably ok. However there is on on the front, can't see real good with v-drive. I didn't see it until I took my alternator out. You have to look at the front of it, maybe use a mirror. Or you can feel it. You'll know if it is broken. It is held to the engine block by 2 bolts.

another thing

If the bracket is broken you'll notice that the belt tensioner pulley you can always tighten all the way up and never quite seem to get the belt tight enough.
