overheat while surfing

We just started surfing this year, however we are encountering a problem that we have never had before. When weighting the boat (only people we have no ballast) on the passenger side the boat will overheat after a while. No rhyme or reason to it. New impeller this year and it stops when we go to normal cruising. Anyone have any ideas. Seems like we are sucking air but I can't believe we are getting the raw water intake out of the water. I am stuck for an answer and we really enjoy surfing. Help

It may be that you have some sort of obstruction, perhaps even before the impeller (e.g., V-drive cooler) and at slower speeds you're just not getting enough water forced up in there. Remember, your intake has a scoop on it that will actually force water up there at higher speeds. You might try disconnecting your raw water intake to the impeller and backflush it to see if something comes out.

I have the same boat as you and we get ours healed over pretty good on the normal side and I've never had an issue with that.

Overheating

I was having a similar problem, boat was overheating at idle. My seawater pump was leaking at the shaft seal and had some play. I bought a new pump, $300, uggh. Now no leaks but still overheated at idle. I took off intake lines to the raw water pump and backflushed with a hose and compressed air. Put it back together, overheated again. I was ripping my hair aout and ready to set the boat on fire. Then I followed the hoses after the pump. it first t's to the passenger exhaust manifold and continues on to a copper, transcooler?? I think that is what it is. Well I removed the intake line to the cooler and no water came out, strange. I stuck my finger in there and pulled out a clump of hair and weeds, backflushed with a garden hose and now now no overheating at idle. So check there. I just fixed this yesterday... Good Luck

That is exactly what I was going to say. This happened to me a few years ago. At idle speed I was fine but anything higher I would over heat. I ended finding a clogged up transmission cooler filled with lake debri, mulch, etc. Took me about 15 minutes to fix and I was back to normal.
